Privacy policy
Last updated: 31 October 2026
- TabOverview has no account and no server. It sends nothing to us or to anyone else.
- What it needs stays in your browser, and you can clear it.
- This website sets no cookies and has no trackers.
1. Who is responsible
TabOverview and this website are run by Global Charity Solutions Kft., Vajda János utca 25., 2120 Dunakeszi, Hungary. Email: hello@groupposting.com. “We” below means them. We are the data controller for the small amount of personal data this website handles (section 5).
2. The extension: what reaches us
Nothing. TabOverview has no server. It has no analytics, no ads and no remote code. Its own security policy blocks its pages from connecting to the internet. We never see your tabs, your pictures, your bookmarks, your history or your settings.
3. The extension: what it handles on your computer
To work, TabOverview has to read some of your browser data. All of this happens on your computer. The Chrome Web Store calls this “handling” data, so we list all of it here.
| What | Why | Where it lives, and for how long |
|---|---|---|
| Open tabs: titles, addresses, icons, windows and tab groups | To show the grid, and for search, Sort by site and Tidy up | Read from Chrome when needed. A list of what you closed is kept for 30 seconds in browser memory for Undo |
| Recently closed tabs and windows | To show them and bring them back | Read from Chrome when needed |
| Closed list: the title and address of pages and windows you’ve closed. Incognito tabs and your “Never preview” sites are left out | To show you what you’ve closed, so you can search it and bring it back | On this computer, in the extension’s own storage. Kept for 30 days, at most 5,000 items. You can clear it in Settings. It is never sent anywhere |
| Bookmarks | To show Saved and your favourites, and to save pages when you ask | In Chrome’s own bookmarks. They stay there if you remove TabOverview |
| Page previews, only if you turn them on: a small picture of a tab you’ve viewed, with its address | To show the picture on the card | In this browser, in the extension’s own storage. At most 400 pictures and 16 MB, and the least used go first. A picture is deleted about a day after its tab closes, so Undo can bring it back. Turning previews off or choosing Clear previews removes them all |
| One picture of the tab you open TabOverview from | For the opening animation and the soft background | Held briefly in browser memory, then deleted. A tiny, heavily blurred copy (96 × 60 pixels) stays in the extension’s storage so the next opening paints at once |
| Browsing history, only if you turn on “Include history in search” | To include it in search results as you type | Read from Chrome when you search. Not copied or kept |
| Settings, including how Home looks and the sites you’ve set to “Never preview” | To remember your choices | In Chrome’s sync storage. If Chrome Sync is on, Google carries them between your signed-in devices, like your other Chrome data |
| A photo for Home, only if you pick one: a smaller copy of it | To show it on your new tab page | On this computer, in the extension’s own storage. It is never sent anywhere |
| A saved copy of Home: your favourites and last few tabs, with their pictures if previews are on | So Home paints at once | On this computer, in the extension’s own storage. It is replaced as your tabs change |
| Small notes to itself: whether the tour is done, whether the pin tip was shown, the days you opened it (only to ask for a rating once), last folder used, tab group colours | So it doesn’t repeat itself | In the extension’s own storage, until you remove it |
Pictures are never taken in Incognito windows. If you choose “Search the web”, Chrome sends what you typed to your default search engine, as it does from the address bar. Site icons come from Chrome’s own icon store, not from the sites.
TabOverview keeps one pinned tab open in each window, so it opens at once. You can turn this off with “Keep ready in the background” in Settings.
When you remove TabOverview, Chrome deletes its storage. Your bookmarks stay.
Permissions, and why each one is there
| What Chrome shows you | Permissions | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Read your browsing history on all your signed-in devices | tabs, sessions | To list open tabs and recently closed tabs. TabOverview does not ask Chrome for your other devices’ tabs |
| Read and change your bookmarks | bookmarks | Saved pages are your normal bookmarks |
| View and manage your tab groups | tabGroups | To show groups and keep them when saving |
| Replace the page you see when opening a new tab | New tab page | The Home page. You can turn it off in Settings |
| No warning | storage, favicon, activeTab, search | To store settings and pictures, show site icons, take the opening picture, and pass a web search to your default engine |
| Read and change all your data on all websites (only if you turn on previews) | Optional site access | Chrome needs this for pictures of tabs. TabOverview adds no code to pages and does not read their content |
| Read and change your browsing history on all your signed-in devices (only if you turn on history in search) | Optional history | To search pages you’ve visited |
4. Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
In plain words: browser data is used only to give you TabOverview’s features. It is not sold, not used for ads, not passed to anyone, and no person reads it.
If the ownership of TabOverview ever changes, we will say so here and on the store listing before it happens.
5. This website
No cookies, no tracking. This site sets no cookies, keeps nothing in your browser’s storage, and has no analytics, no ads and no embeds from other companies. Fonts, pictures and the film all come from this site. That is why there is no cookie banner.
Hosting. Like any website, this one is delivered by a hosting company: Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. To deliver pages and protect the site from attacks, its servers process your IP address, the time, the page you asked for, your browser type and the page you came from. We do this because we have a legitimate interest in running a safe website (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Cloudflare acts on our behalf under its data processing agreement and keeps these records only as long as it needs them for this purpose. Data may be processed in the USA. Cloudflare relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for this, with standard contractual clauses as a fallback.
Email. If you write to us, we use your address and message to answer you (GDPR Article 6(1)(b) or (f)), and we delete them when they’re no longer needed, within 24 months. Our email provider is Apple (iCloud Mail).
Chrome Web Store. Install buttons take you to the Chrome Web Store, which Google runs under its own privacy policy.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive a copy. Write to hello@groupposting.com. We hold almost nothing, because the extension sends us nothing: at most, an email you sent us.
For data on your computer, you’re in charge: use Clear previews in Settings, turn off a feature, or remove TabOverview.
You can complain to the Hungarian data protection authority: Nemzeti Adatvédelmi és Információszabadság Hatóság (NAIH), Falk Miksa utca 9-11, 1055 Budapest, ugyfelszolgalat@naih.hu, naih.hu. You can also go to the authority where you live.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes here with a new date. If a change affects what TabOverview handles, we’ll also say so on the store listing.
