## When TabOverview helps

- You have too many tabs open and can't read their titles.
- You're looking for a page and don't know which tab it's in.
- You want to see pictures of all your open tabs in Chrome, in one grid.
- You want a visual tab manager for Chrome with no account and nothing sent to a server.

## How it works

1. **Press the shortcut.** Or click the icon. Every page you have open appears at once.
2. **Type two letters.** No clicking first. Results narrow down as you type.
3. **Press Return.** You’re there. Esc takes you back to where you were.

## Free and private

No registration, no card and no subscription. It makes no connections to the internet, and its own security rules block them.

- **We load nothing:** TabOverview fetches nothing from the internet. Everything it needs comes inside it.
- **We record nothing:** No analytics, no logs, no tracking. We can’t see what you do.
- **We get nothing:** There’s no server to send to. Your tabs and pictures never reach us.

## Features

- **Find anything:** One search across your tabs, saved pages and closed tabs. Add your history if you like.
- **Tidy up:** Duplicates and week-old tabs in one button. It suggests, you decide.
- **Sort by site:** One press puts the same sites side by side. Undo puts them back.
- **Keep what matters:** One key saves a tab to your normal Chrome bookmarks.
- **A calm new tab:** A sky that follows your day, your favourites and your last few tabs. You can turn it off.

## Your tabs are safe

- **Every close has Undo:** You get 30 seconds to change your mind, every time.
- **Nothing happens by itself:** No tab closes, moves or sleeps unless you say so.
- **Saved means bookmarks:** They stay in Chrome, even if you remove TabOverview.
- **Nothing runs on your pages:** It adds no code to the sites you visit.

## What Chrome will ask, and why

- **Read your browsing history on all your signed-in devices:** This is Chrome’s wording for reading your open and recently closed tabs, so they can appear in the grid. TabOverview doesn’t look at your other devices.
- **Read and change your bookmarks:** Saved pages are your normal bookmarks. It changes them only when you save, move or delete one.
- **View and manage your tab groups:** So your groups show up in the grid and stay together when you save them.
- **Replace the page you see when opening a new tab:** That’s the calm new tab page. You can turn it off in Settings.
- **Read and change all your data on all websites:** Chrome asks this if you turn on page previews. They’re the small pictures of tabs you’ve viewed, and they stay in your browser. Without them, cards show the site icon and title.
- **Read and change your browsing history on all your signed-in devices:** Chrome asks this if you add history to search. TabOverview searches it only when you type.

## Questions

### Is it really free?

Yes. There’s no registration, no card, no subscription, no ads and nothing to upgrade to.

### What can TabOverview see?

Your open tabs and bookmarks, so it can show them to you. Everything it reads stays in your browser. If you use Chrome Sync, Chrome carries your bookmarks and TabOverview’s settings between your devices, the same as your other Chrome data. The privacy policy lists all of it.

### How can I check it sends nothing?

Open TabOverview, right-click the page and choose Inspect, then open the Network tab. You’ll only see its own files, and nothing going to the internet.

### Do I need page previews?

No. Without them each card shows the site icon and title. With them, a tab gets its picture once you’ve viewed it. Load previews fills in the rest in one go if you ask, waking sleeping tabs once and putting them back to sleep. Incognito windows are never pictured, and you can clear every picture with one click.

### Why is there a new pinned tab?

That’s TabOverview, kept ready so it opens at once. There’s one in each window. Turn off “Keep ready in the background” in Settings if you’d rather not have it.

### Will it slow Chrome down?

It runs nothing on the pages you visit, and its background part sleeps when you’re not using it. The pinned tab that keeps it ready does use some memory, and you can turn that off in Settings.

### What happens if I remove it?

Your saved pages stay, because they’re normal Chrome bookmarks. Everything else it kept goes with it.

### Can I change the shortcut?

Yes. Open Settings in TabOverview and choose Change, or go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts. On Mac the shortcut is ⌘⇧O. On Windows it’s Alt+Shift+O.

### Does it work in other browsers?

It’s built and tested for Chrome on a computer. It doesn’t run on phones or tablets.

## Limits

- It runs in Google Chrome on a computer. It does not run on phones or tablets.
- A tab gets its picture once you've viewed it with previews on. Until then its card shows the site icon and title.
- It is not made by, or connected to, Google. Chrome is a trademark of Google LLC.
