# How to organize tabs in Chrome

Last reviewed: 1 November 2026

Group related tabs, pin the ones you always need, and name your windows. Chrome has all three built in.

## In Chrome

- **Group tabs:** right-click a tab, choose Add tab to group, then New group. Drag other tabs into the group.

- **Collapse a group:** select its name or coloured circle.

- **Pin tabs:** pinned tabs show only the site icon, which saves room.

- **Select several tabs:** highlight them to group, move, pin, mute or close them together.

- **Name your windows:** this helps you tell them apart.

- **Try vertical tabs:** they move the tab strip to the side of the window.

## When you have too many to drag

TabOverview shows every tab in one grid, by window, by Chrome tab group or by site. Drag across the grid to select tabs, then group them with a name and colour. One press sorts the same sites side by side, and you can save or close a whole site at once, with Undo. Saved pages are normal Chrome bookmarks, so they stay in Chrome if you remove TabOverview.

TabOverview is a free extension for Google Chrome on a computer, coming soon to the Chrome Web Store. It needs no registration and sends nothing to a server.
